New Laptops for Children at the 50th Street Family Program

The children at the Coalition’s 50th Street Family Program
were all smiles when they received their own laptops. When
the U.S. began the shutdown to slow the spread of COVID-19 in
March, schools struggled with how to move forward with online
classes. It wasn’t just a matter of altering students’ curriculum.
Many lacked either internet access or home computers — and
some lacked both.

The Coalition had to figure out how to get technology into
the hands of the children who are homeless. While we have
a computer room, COVID-19 protocols were in full effect. The
goal was to get laptops in the apartments of all the children who
went to school. With proficient laptop skills, children can access
valuable educational software, expand their knowledge through
online resources and complete online homework assignments.
Laptops were provided by Bridging Tech Charitable Fund.

Through your donation, you can help create more success stories like this one for residents of the District of Columbia that are struggling with homelessness.
