Director of Finance and Administration

John Nwaogbe has been an integral part of the Coalition for the Homeless, Inc. since 1990, advancing through several key financial leadership roles to his current position as Director of Finance and Administration. He oversees all aspects of the organization’s financial management, including budgeting, accounting, investment oversight, and compliance with federal and local regulations. John also manages audits, insurance, and reporting to government agencies and the Board of Directors, ensuring fiscal transparency and accountability.

In addition to his financial leadership, John directs the organization’s administrative and IT operations, promoting efficiency and safeguarding resources across all departments. His deep institutional knowledge and strategic oversight have been instrumental in maintaining the Coalition’s financial stability and supporting its mission to serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

John holds an MBA in Accounting from the University of the District of Columbia and a BS in Accounting from Strayer College. He is proficient in Microsoft Dynamics (Solomon Accounting System), ADP Payroll, and other financial management tools.

If you are in need of free, accessible transportation to shelter, or you see someone outside in need of shelter or a welfare check, call the Homeless Services Hotline at (202) 399-7093 or dial 311. If there is an immediate risk to safety, call 911. When calling, please include the time, the address or location of the sighting, and a description of the person’s appearance. 

During hypothermia season (November 1 - March 31), the Homeless Services Hotline is open 24 hours a day and transportation to shelter is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
