Full-time Donor Relations Manager

Reports to: Development Director

Job Location: Main Office, Coalition for the Homeless, 1234 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Suite C-1015, Washington, DC 20005

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

The Coalition for the Homeless is a nonprofit organization that has been operating since 1979 to provide housing programs and supportive services to individuals and families who are at risk or experiencing homelessness. Our primary focus is to help them become self-sufficient. In Washington, DC, we manage six temporary housing programs and two permanent housing sites consisting of 18 units. To address the root causes of homelessness, we offer supportive services such as temporary housing, food, case management, substance abuse counseling, and assistance with employment and housing placement

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Donor Relations Manager is part of the development team, which includes the Development Director, Chairperson of Development (a board-appointed position), other board members, and volunteers. The development team’s objective is to increase sustainable individual donor giving to support the Coalition for the Homeless’s general operations and growth.

The Donor Relations Manager is responsible for implementing and presenting individual donor relations strategies with input from the development team. This position requires a high degree of independence and can multitask various projects at once while maintaining a clear view of how each project supports the Coalition’s mission. You will help determine goals and strategies to increase donations. Job duties include maintaining relationships with donors and prospects, developing stewardship plans, and creating new ways to thank and recognize donors.

The primary purpose of this position is as follows: 1) implement donor relations activities and engage with donors as part of the larger development plan; 2) ensure tracking of donor relations activities; 3) contribute to direct response plans and activities making recommendations for improving program results; 4) coordinate with staff, consultants, and vendors to implement plans to broaden base of support; 5) promote and manage monthly giving program; 6) promote and track planned gifts; 7) assist with research; 8) assist with the entry of individual donor giving data; 9) coordinate with Development Director to implement e-marketing and social media campaigns as they relate to individual giving; and 10) assist with administrative duties as needed.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

· Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field and experience with fundraising

· At least three to five years of development and fundraising experience in a nonprofit environment, including three or more years of intermediate to advanced database experience using Donorperfect.

· 5+ years of proven experience with successful fundraising and donor cultivation strategies

· Proven record and understanding of moves management.

· Excellent written communication and verbal skills.

· Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.

· Exceptional project management, organizational, and time management skills, with an ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, seeing projects to completion on deadline and with quality.

· Exceptional understanding of private philanthropy as it relates to not-for-profit organizations and a wide and deep knowledge of fundamental disciplines of resource development.

· Work evenings at least twice a year.

· Maintains professional, discrete communication and does not pass along information that may be considered private and protected. You will handle donations from board members, the Executive Director, and staff.

 

JOB DUTIES

· Manages all donor information, including prospect records, gifts, pledges, payments, cultivation, and stewardship tasks. Track all donor interactions in the database and flag potential major donors.

· Develop and implement strategies for sustaining a sustained base of annual individual donors. Manage and expand the monthly donor giving program.

· Must understand and use clean database strategies.

· Ensures all data functions are performed accurately, thoroughly, and timely; ensures compliance with established deadlines and operational procedures; ensures the confidentiality and integrity of donor information and contributions.

· Imports data from Network for Good to Donorperfect

· Prepares and mails all gift thank you letters

· Prepares and mails any confirmation paperwork an organization or company requires regarding a donation to the Coalition.

· Able to understand and use the following online fundraising forms in Donorperfect: Annual Appeals, Monthly Giving, Crowdfunding, Online donations, Fundraising events, Major gifts, Direct Mail, and Capital Campaigns.

· Assists the Development Department with special events and major projects.

· Coordinate with the Finance department to reconcile donations received monthly

· Coordinate with the Development Director to implement e-marketing and social media campaigns related to individual giving.

· Create and administer basic, intermediate, and advanced fundraising reports as needed.

· Track and record all electronic disbursements from various giving platforms. For example, Network for Good and Benevity Giving online.

· Maintain online profiles, including Charity Navigator and GuideStar.

· Manage strategy and appropriately implement external campaigns such as Giving Tuesday and United Way/CFC Campaigns.

· Plan and coordinate the annual Donor Appreciation Event

TECHNOLOGY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

· Proficiency with MailChimp, Canva, and Constant Contact.

· Experience with social media (e.g., including Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.)

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

· Proficiency with Google Suites

· Adobe Suite knowledge a plus

· Experience with WordPress a plus. Experience in adding information to the website
