Job Description: Staff Accountant (AP/AR/Payroll) FT Contract Position: October 1 – September 30
Salary $70,000
The Coalition for the Homeless is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our Office of Finance and Administration. This is a contract position contingent upon the renewal of funding through the Community Partnership for the Prevention of Homelessness.
As a Staff Accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the organization’s financial operations run smoothly, particularly in the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and grant invoicing.

Accounts Payable:
· Maintain vendor records in the Solomon IV database.
· Review, sort, and distribute vendor invoices for approval.
· Respond to vendor and employee inquiries and resolve account discrepancies.
· Process vendor payments and reconcile cleared checks.
Accounts Receivable:
· Prepare monthly invoices for grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with federal cost principles and grant requirements.
· Develop efficient systems and procedures to streamline invoicing.
· Maintain accurate records and assist during audits.
· Coordinate with the Community Partnership staff to meet invoicing requirements.
Payroll:
· Process bi-weekly payroll, including updates for new hires, terminations, and personnel actions.
· Review timecards/sheets and maintain accurate leave accrual records.
· Handle payroll garnishments, benefits deductions, and ensure timely payments.
· Collaborate with Division Heads, Program Directors, and the Personnel Director on payroll matters.
General Accounting Support:
· Assist the Director of Finance with general accounting operations, including revenue recognition and compliance with OMB Circular A-133 and other federal regulations.
· Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting with at least two years of accounting experience OR demonstrated ability to perform accounting functions (for internal candidates without an accounting degree).
· Knowledge of government and non-profit accounting principles.
· Familiarity with federal grant and contract procedures, including OMB Circulars A-122 and A-133.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and accounting software (e.g., Solomon IV).
· Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with staff, vendors, and external partners.
· Ability to operate calculators and other standard office equipment.

· Reports to: Director of Finance & Administration
· Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs and have 20/20 vision (or corrective lenses).
· Work Environment: Minimal supervision; must demonstrate initiative and the ability to meet performance objectives.
