Lucho Vásquez, MSW, LICSW, Executive Director

I officially started as executive director on February 28, 2025. I want to introduce myself and share a bit about my background. I have spent my entire career working to help vulnerable and underserved people in our city and nation. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from Catholic University and a Master of Social Work degree from Howard University. Additionally, I am a licensed independent clinical social worker in the District of Columbia.

I am truly honored and grateful for the Board of Directors’ choice and confidence in my ability to lead the Coalition for the Homeless into this new chapter. I have had the opportunity to partner with the Coalition over the years to help provide critical services to people in need. I am in good company. I want to thank the Coalition’s senior staff and all employees for their warm welcome, especially Michael Ferrell for his support and assistance in making this transition into my new role as smooth as possible. We owe much gratitude to Michael for his 35 years of commitment and strong leadership, which have positioned the Coalition for the Homeless for a bright future.

I am excited to apply my over 25 years of experience in housing, behavioral health, and social services to advance the Coalition’s vital mission. What inspires me most about our mission

is the focus on serving people who are in the greatest need in our community and doing so with a big heart – a real trademark of the Coalition! Having worked in homeless services for many years, I know firsthand the strength, resiliency, and deep need in our communities. The individuals and families we serve are our brothers and sisters, and I am honored to serve them.

My professional experience has been predominantly in Washington, DC. Most recently, I was the Chief Program Officer at Housing Up in Washington, DC. I provided executive leadership for all agency programs and initiatives, including permanent supportive housing, rapid rehousing, transitional housing, resident services, and housing navigation. I was responsible for all housing and clinical services for over 3,000 children and adults living in the District of Columbia.

I have also been fortunate to be able to initiate and lead a wide range of efforts with several other organizations, including the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the DC Department of Mental Health (now known as the DC Department of Behavioral Health), and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington.

In the coming months, I am eager to meet with and listen to the community partners and donors whose support makes our work possible. I welcome your thoughts and ideas on enhancing the services we provide. You can reach me by email at lvasquez@dccfh.org.
